| Content | [Jindřich] Říha submits a proposal to Dru [Antonín] Schenk, and consequently to the President of the Republic, regarding the provision of a further contribution to Bohuslav Martinů in response to the composer's request [KPR 1932-09-15b]. The financial support is to be used for the publication of the Quartet with Orchestra and for the completion of the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. JR spoke to BM about his request, his financial situation and his stay in Paris during the composer's visit to Prague, mentioning to him that BM's stay in Paris was already long and he should transfer his activities to his homeland at least for a while. However, JR acknowledges that BM does not slack off and is internationally acclaimed; moreover, BM has written a ballet, ŠPALÍČEK, for the National Theatre in Prague. But BM does not want to hear about a return, he would rather languish than be bound by regulations or didactic instructions. JR mentions the previous support of 5000 francs from the President, given to BM in the first half of the same year. However, in the end, on the basis of BM's achievements and his well-established career, the DG recommends that the President make a further contribution of 5,000 francs, to be paid in ten monthly quotas through the Embassy in Paris. |
