ContentThe writer communicates to Vojtěch Strnad information from Karel Šebánek:
Melantrich has published JULIETTY's piano lifts. The score and orchestral voices are by Bohuslav Martinů. The writer requests a letter from S. W. [Schmolka, Walter?] to BM and according to him Dilia would arrange with Melantrich, who have piano lifts with Czech text.
All of BM's [previously published] operas have been published by Boosey & Hawkes. Its director is Ernst Roth, who published a piano extract, score, orchestral material and the suite VESELOHRY NA MOST as the first [BM] opera. It won first prize in the USA [Music Critics Circle Award, New York] alongside Stravinsky's ballet and has had 24 European premieres to date. It was to have been published by Melantrich, but it was not.
Šebánek advises to offer B&H an edition of ŠPALÍČEK. The only authentic score is owned by the BM family (there is only an older version in Brno). The composer's relatives have health problems. The writer gives the address of Maria Martinů, BM's sister. KS would arrange for the family to borrow the score. Supposedly they are suspicious because they have not been paid for the rural performances of the SPALICE. Writer Strnad asks for an interview.
