Content and physical description
ContentBM accepts the proposal regarding the symphony [premiere of the 5th Symphony by the Czech Philharmonic planned for the 1947 Prague Spring Festival] and asks for details of performance and operating material; BM will send the score. Asks about the planned premiere date because of the possibility of a second performance in the USA with the Philadelphia Orchestra next season. Asks about the possibility of making copies using transparency paper, if this technique is used in the CSR, and describes the advantages of this method for reproducing copies. If he produces the symphony's operating material this way, he would like to have a copy sent for himself. He will need to stock up on transparency paper for his return to Czechoslovakia. It would be a good idea to make a recording of this piece. He asks about the possibility of saving the money for this piece at home so he can pick it up later. Inquires about the outcome of the negotiations with Mischa Elman. Charles Munch heard a performance of CONCERTA GROSSA with Sergei Koussevitsky and wants to perform it in Prague, so he will need two good pianists. BM has heard about a concert by Josef Palenichek in Moscow where he played his compositions and asks for details. He would like to be present for the performance of the DOUBLE CONCERT in Prague. This is his favourite composition. His health is still not well. ChMu has had great success in America, having conducted in Boston. But he said he has not yet been paid [by the Czech Philharmonic]. Why won't Václav Talich come to the USA? Vilím is to return a photograph of BM lent to him by Charlotte Martinů, it is the first photo ChM gave in Paris.
