Content and physical description
ContentAnčerl is happy that BM likes the way Symphonic Fantasies plays. They also had success with the BM's Fifth Symphony, which they gave with the Czech Philharmonic at the end of October [1956] in Munich and at the beginning of November in Leipzig. Ančerl also had the Fifth Symphony on the programme for the BBC concert in London at the end of October [1956], but as they could not find a piano in London that matched their tuning, they had to replace it with Dvorák's Symph. (The difference in tuning is said to be considerable - the Czech Philharmonic tunes 1/9th note above the English orchestras).
Ančerl writes about the Czech Philharmonic's forthcoming trip to Russia: he will conduct Symphonic Fantasies on 23 February [1957] in Moscow, 5 March in Leningrad and 13 March in Kiev. In April Ančerl will leave for Berlin, where he will record Symph. fantazie with the "Rundfunkorchester". In addition, the Dresdner Staatskapelle has also commissioned "Fantasie", but due to time constraints Ančerl could not accommodate them yet, he will perform there after the holidays.
The Czech Philharmonic is planning a major tour of the USA and Canada and for this tour Ančerl intends to prepare "Three Frescoes". BM asks if this is the right choice or if he could recommend another symphony. composition. He will be grateful for advice - BM seems to be the conditions in America.
Finally, Ančerl writes about the Czech Philharmonic's nonet - the composition of the ensemble. Jan Novák has recently written "Balletti" for the nonet.
