ContentBohuslav [and Charlotta] Martinů read about the stay of Paul and Maja Sacher in England. They must be back by now. BM and ChM are still in Rome and will remain there until October. They have no other plans yet, they may have to return to New York. They are having trouble with their travel documents. ChM can't go back to France. BM has no desire to return to the US and is pessimistic about his future. It would be best to return to Prague, but he can't go there. He will try to negotiate some sort of waiver with the State Department. They are thinking about staying in Switzerland. Rafael Kubelík seems to have got permission to do so, but BM doesn't know what the conditions are. He asks Sacher for information.
BM and ChM hope to stay in Europe after the addressee's time in Rome is over. They would love to come to the premiere of EPOS OF GILGAMES. Universal Edition have already released the piano extract in final form, hopefully they have sent it to Sacher. The proofreading of the orchestral score is also done.
GREEK PASSIONS may be performed next season at Covent Garden [Royal Opera House], so BM would rather wait in Europe.
Margrit Weber from Zurich has commissioned a piano concerto from BM [CONCERT FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA No. 5].
BM and ChM salute the addressee and MS.
