Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů was just replying to Paul Sacher's proposal to perform CONCERTANT SYMPHONY [No. 2] on 8 December when he received a letter from PS dated 27 January with information from London that the work had already been performed in Paris. According to BM, this is a mistake and the information refers to the composition SINFONIETTA GIOCOSA. CONCERTANT SYMPHONY No. 2 has not yet been performed anywhere, not even the orchestral material has been produced. As soon as BM received the first letter from PS, he went to Boosey & Hawkes [in New York] and negotiated with Betty Bean that the performance be reserved for Sacher. BB immediately wrote to London [B&H] as there were many requests for this work. The piece is known only to PS and Rafael Kubelík, who took a copy to London and has not yet returned it. All other plans have been stopped. BM will see BB the next day and clarify the misunderstanding.
BM is happy that Sacher likes the song and wants to premiere it. All BM's works are always available to Sacher. He appreciates that PS chose December 8, BM's birthday, for the premiere.
BM will ask for a copy in New York but it will have to be made in London where the manuscript is.
BM greets the addressee and Maja Sacher.
