Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav and Charlotta Martinů wish Paul and Maje Sacher a Merry Christmas. They hope for a reunion soon, but things are getting complicated.
BM apologizes for sending Sacher the wrong proofs [for CONCERT DA CAMERA]. He himself is unable to find the marked places again, the error apparently arising from the different numbering of the manuscript and the copy. He has, however, found a few places. He writes specific notes on them. Other errors PS finds on his own when studying the composition. It is possible that some of the errors appeared only in the copy, not in the manuscript.
The most serious change concerns only the piano, a few bars at the beginning of the "solo". However, this has already been corrected by PS.
BM mentions the success of CONCERTA GROSSA in Boston. He hopes that martial law will not prevent the New York premiere, scheduled for 8 Jan. BM's work will appear on several more programs this season. BM believes CONCERTO GROSSO will be performed a lot. Now placing a DOUBLE CONCERT, he will surely reap even greater success with it. The [American] premiere of the violin concerto [CONCERTA DA CAMERA] will probably also be in Boston. How does Sacher find the solo violin part, not too difficult?
BM doesn't know if PS will receive this letter in time, correspondence will probably be more difficult now. Thanks Sacher for the check.
BM's 51st birthday is today. They [with ChM] are still in the country in Jamaica [New York].
BM is writing a new sonata for cello and piano [SONATA No. 2] and must begin to think of a symphony for the Boston Orchestra [SYMPHONY No. 1]. This is the best orchestra BM has ever heard.
He is glad that PS keeps in touch with his friends in Cannes. PS is to inform him of the premiere.
