Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher thanks Bohuslav Martinů for his letter of 28 August, which crossed with his letter to the composer of 27 August. He hopes that BM will be able to hear the radio broadcast of [DVOJKONCERT] of 2 October. Ernest Ansermet will perform DVOJKONCERT in January or February 1941 with the Orchestre Romande in Geneva and Lausanne. PS [and Maja Sacher] have made material available to him.
PS is sorry for the lost BM manuscripts and consoles him that they will be found after the occupation.
He does not want to write to the Siamec factory in Nevers so as not to draw attention to BM. PS's letters to the occupied zone are subject to censorship. For the same reason, he does not recommend that BM write to Universal Edition [on the CONCERTA GROSSA matter].
Emigration of BM to the USA is not necessary, according to PS; life in the unoccupied part of France might be better for BM than in the USA. The situation is different, however, if he secures a job in the USA and if Charlotte Martinů can accompany him there.
Given the situation, it would be better not to contact the Morgan banking house in Paris. PS tried to send money to the addressee via the Swiss National Bank.
PS asks for the addresses of Marcel Mihalovici, Tibor Harsányi, and anyone else he knows.
