Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů replied to the letter from Orbis. If you need to write something sharper, just say. It is [?] an important matter for BM, he asks Karel Šebánek if he thinks he will be allowed [?]. He wonders about the money (30k) he was allowed during the holidays - it hasn't arrived yet. BM Melantrich has asked for a more detailed account of the state of his money. He wants to keep track, he now keeps his own file. He will go to AMP in the next few days, hoping to get the manuscripts back. He asks about KS's publishing plans at Orbis. She warns him to wait to publish CONCERTINA PRO KLAVIR AND ORCH. and his other things. Judges from one review on SYMPHONY No. 3 that there may be no interest in his "American-influenced" works. She is to write to him, then, what is the situation. He asks how KS likes it in Orbis, how far along the publication of THE SPALLER is, and whether he has sent JULIET yet. The Academy Award is to be sent to him in America, but he does not know what to do about it. He is glad that KS has clarified the situation at Orbis that if they don't pay, there won't be contracts. He asks KS not to send things for Bossey & Hawkes to his home but directly to the publishers. He is having nothing but difficulty with this. The score of the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 2 is magnificent. KS has only to add the dedication "To Misha Elman" on the first page. He will add it himself to the copies already sent to him. With "krurafekub" [Rafael Kubelík? probably an allusion to the previous letter - see Sheb 1949-12-03 "Kubraf and Barclay conductor"] talked and settled it. He admits that he is sometimes stumped and takes a while to understand, but eventually he gets it and it's all right. He is waiting for the contracts and the money reports. He has already asked for money to be sent through the consulate in the form of aid. He wishes all the best for the new year.
