Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů is glad that Karel Šebánek understood his letter. He realizes that KS is not only responsible for his works and that he probably has (or will have) a lot of trouble because of him. He again draws attention to the need for Melantrich to be represented abroad. He needs some of his stuff at Princeton University, would be happy for [students] to buy the pieces, but doesn't know how to order them. BM gently informs him that he has entered into a contract with Boosey & Hawkes for three years, and justifies it on the ground that he must also look after his own interests and have some security. He realises that he could easily displease someone at home as a composer, and then that will be a problem. For the time being Melantrich has enough of his works to publish, and if need be, he can send him some new work dated before the contract (with B&H). BM needs piano lifts of JULIETTE with English text so that he can take steps for its performance. KS is to forget the paper BM signed for him in Paris, but is to send him the contract for PLAYS ON MARY and CONCERT FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA No. 2, and is to let him know when he needs a new manuscript [new version]. He recommends what he should publish [of THE GAMES OF MARY and THE SPALIER] as soon as possible, with an English text. BM sent him a packet, if KS needs anything, just write. He is saddened by his letter, but expected it [?]
