Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher sends Miloš Šafránek the requested information about Bohuslav Martinů's works:
DVOJKONCERT: PS gives the exact wording of the dedication (BM dedicated the piece to him in memory of his stay in Schönenberg). The only precise date of composition is given at the end of the last sentence - 29 September 1938.
CONCERTO DA CAMERA ['Concerto pour violon et orchestre a cordes, piano, timbales, piatti et triangle']: The piece lasts 22 minutes, and is dedicated to Sacher and the Basel Chamber Orchestra. PS quotes the composition details: the 1st movement is credited to Edgartown on 14 July 1941, the 2nd movement is not credited, the 3rd movement is credited to Martha's Vineyard Island in Edgartown, 8 August 1941
TOCCATA E DUE CANZONI: Lasting 30 minutes, it was dedicated to Sacher. BM wrote it to mark the 20th anniversary of BKO. PS again gives details of its composition - Toccata: New York, 1 June 1946, Canzona No. 1: New York, 25 June 1946, Canzona No. 2: New York, 3 October 1946.
PS and Maja Sacher recalled their stay in Prague fondly. PS thanks Šafránek for his kind welcome. An acquaintance translated Šafránek's article from Svobodné noviny. PS thanks MŠ for introducing him to the Czech audience in this way.
