Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů thanks Charlotte Martinů for the letter and the package of music, and appreciates the sending of [PASTOREL] to [Jean Leduc], although it probably cost a lot of money. Mummy [Karolina Martinů] enjoys the cognac and chocolates. Mrs. B. Brandl [Brandl or Frantiska Novak] sends her greetings from Florence, they will meet at Mattsee. Sunday's celebration at the stadium was disrupted by bad weather. Today BM is having dinner at [Jan] Jílek's, he doesn't want to spend too much time there, there will be people there that BM doesn't like very much. He will go to Prague in 10 days. ChM's bag is almost ready. Tomorrow they will all go to Pardubice to listen to SERENADA, [Stanislav] Novák is already rehearsing it [with the Czech Philharmonic] and they like it. BM is looking forward to hearing it and wants to talk about the work with [Václav] Talich about performing Serenade in Sweden. He has written to the National Theatre about THREE WISHES and is waiting for a reply. They are in the middle of a separation with ChM, and after a visit to the dentist he will make a return trip. He misses ChM.

NoteThe correspondence is accompanied by notes by Jaroslav Mihule. In his notes, JM refers to the writing of SM 1931-09-08, which refers, among other things, to the Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra No. 1. However, BM does not mention this work in this letter (MarC 1931-09-08).
