ContentJan Novák, together with [Václav] Nosek and [Zdeněk] Cupák, ask Karel Šebánek, through the Czech Music Fund, to provide a score, a piano excerpt and material or consent to copy the following two items by Bohuslav Martinů: MIRANDOLINA, which the Brno theatre has planned for the next season, and SYMPHONIC FANTASY for radio subscription concerts. BM agrees to do it in Brno first, because he feels himself to be a Moravian. In return, the theatre will invite KS to the premiere and pay his per diem. How else would they celebrate Martinů's 60th birthday!

He asks for MIRANDOLINA. Everyone at the theatre agrees and the Ministry will arrange it, but they need the material and score by September or the end of August at the latest, and the piano extract as soon as possible, because the opera has to be translated (it is in Italian).

ZC's note: They have been waiting for SYMPHONY No. 3 since July 1954. SYMPHONIC FANTASIES will definitely be given in September 1955.
