Content and physical description
ContentJan Novák learned from Marien [perhaps Marie Pražanová] that Karel Šebánek was interested in Martinů's CONCERTINO FOR KALVÍR. Brno Radio had already acquired the material and copied the score, and Eliška Nováková recorded the piece in the autumn with [Břetislav] Bakala, and it is an excellent recording. Unfortunately, Radio Prague won't let it out. It's a superb composition, although BM says it's no chef d'oeuvre. JN apologises if he caused any problems for Šebánek by having the piece copied in Brno, he did it with good intentions.

JN regrets that he did not get BM any of the old Russian music that BM asked him for. JN visited the Orthodox Church in Brno, but they have nothing. Hopefully they will have a bigger archive in Prague.

Can KS find SYMPHONY FANTASIES material for next season? JN heard that it was a huge success. I'm sure [Zdenek] Cupak will attack KS because they are getting their teeth into it for this season. And BM will be 65 years old!

JN was hoping to have a concert with Eliška Nováková in Prague these days - they have Martinů's THREE CZECH DANCES and Nováková's Variations on a Theme of Martinů on the programme, but [Pavel] Eckstein pulled out at the last minute. They made a furore in Brno with this programme.
