Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav [and Charlotta] Martinů returned safely to Paris. BM would like to thank Paul [and Maje] Sacher for a nice stay with them and for everything they did for them. He encloses a letter for BKO.
Regarding the concert in Paris, BM suggested to the committee that PS come to Paris and pay the cost of the orchestra rehearsals. The suggestion was happily accepted and even sparked other projects. BM sent a telegram to Sacher with the dates of the concert (it's for radio), it must be arranged long in advance. The programme remains as PS proposed: Willy Burkhard, Igor Stravinsky, ?, BM [DOUBLE CONCERT]. The French composer is to be chosen by PS, except that Jacques Ibert's Capriccio is already on Charles Munch's programme. BM thinks that PS wanted Capriccio and not Divertissement, which was written as music for the play The Straw Hat and JI then turned it into a suite. There was talk of a Serenade by Darius Milhaud. BM believes they would have found something in DM's work, which has a lot of pieces for small ensemble. The concert will be in the hall of the [Paris] Conservatoire with the chosen orchestra. Does the date suit Sacher? Is he not too busy with his concerts? They would need to know the exact titles of the pieces (for the WB piece) and the individual movements. They don't do posters, it's too expensive, but the audience is informed at the Sunday concerts and in the newspapers. Does PS have orchestral material? Éditions Max Eschig has the material for IS. BM suggests Albert Roussel or Maurice Ravel as a French composer. Can PS come now? Will he know in time the programme to be broadcast on the radio?
BM would be happy if the concert could take place and if he could see PS in Paris. Munch will be giving something by Conrad Beck with a large orchestra. BM will see Marcel Mihalovici tomorrow; will write at once if there is anything new. As to the information PS asked him for: Tibor Harsányi and MM. [BM encloses a note for [Milos Šafránek] if he happens to find CONCERTA GROSSA material in Prague, but PS should write to Universal Edition after all.
