Content and physical description
ContentThis is a handwritten letter by Charlotte Martinů in French and two typed translations into Czech. The translations include notes.
Charlotte Martinů has arranged with Alain [Bécourt] and his wife to go to Prague during the Christmas holidays on 20 December. She would be delighted if the stay at the spa would be successful. They will go to Prague in Alain's car.
They were in Switzerland, on the way ChM fell ill again. They saw a huge wreath with a Czechoslovakian ribbon on Bohuslav Martinů's grave. Then they went to the Sachers'. I think [Jaroslav] Mihule told Richard Klos that [Paul] Sacher had not received an invitation to Prague (note: PS later wrote to ChM that he had received an invitation, but could not accept - without reasons), and also about JM's visit, who had not been received by them (note: PS later wrote to ChM that he had received an invitation, but could not accept - without reasons).ChM had read in a TV and radio programme in Paris that the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by [Herbert] Karajan, was on the programme in French Switzerland at 9 p.m. on 2 September 1976, playing, among other things, Martinů. The Sachers claimed that BM's name was not on the Swiss programmes. ChM is trying to find out if it was actually played. Max [Kellerhals] played her a recording of a concert in Baden-Baden in 1971, the West German Radio Orchestra played the CONCERT FOR TWO SMITH ORCHESTRA. Couldn't Václav Neumann obtain it? It's beautiful. They also heard SYMPHONY No. 1 performed by Zdeněk Mácal with the Frankfurt orchestra.
ChM is happy that [Štěpán] Engel of Orbis is working on the translation of her book into German. She thanks [Gerald] Davis for the photograph. She is pleased to hear about the BM Society.
She will have a verbal discussion about copyright. She doesn't want to see "that gentleman she doesn't like" (note: Miloš Šafránek, this is about his book "BM Theatre").
She wrote to Pertot (NB: editor of Radio Lugano). She has no news from him whether he received the ARIADNA tape.
