| Content | Petr Zenkl writes to Vladimír Vaněk about the functioning of the Council of Free Czechoslovakia. Among other things, he comments on the matter of Bohuslav Martinů, on whom there is a division of opinion. They regret that he does not declare himself an exile, indeed some claim that he is on the opposite side, and prove this with quotations from the communist press, where he writes favourably about BM. PZ quotes from an article in Praca of 25.4.1956, where BM's letter is also quoted: 'Everything that is happening in our country, even if it is the building of roads, interests me immensely. I myself join in your work, albeit in a completely different field, perhaps in a remote environment..." [taken out of context, see letter to NRC 1948-11-03]. PZ begs the VC to take up BM's case and if he can, to win him over to their ranks, that would be a great merit, all the more so when the regime writes so nicely about him. VV is also to suggest what they could do for BM. |
