| Content | Thank you for your letter, which was accompanied by a bill from Melantrich for SERENADS I, II, III and DIVERTIMENTA (IV). The amount was 95K, 25% royalty discount 23.25 and porto 5 - leaving 74.75K to send. He asks that if Bohuslav Martinů needs something, he arranges it and sends the bill to them (Martinů family), it is unthinkable that KS should pay for it himself. As for the bust of Mrs. [Hedvika] Zaorálek for the local Museum, it would probably be best if HZ contacted the Museum herself. They have not had much fun with the Museum since the speech on 8 December 1957 at the unveiling of the plaque, they don't want to have much say in anything so that it doesn't look like they are benefiting in the end. What they could, they gave to the Museum free of charge, the rest they are hiding until a more suitable location can be found for it - for the time being it's [in the Museum] in two small rooms, but separately. They have learned that they probably want to buy a medallion of the plaque by the sculptor [Josef?] Kadlec for the Museum. They were happy about the success of Gilgamesh. František Martinů was very ill - he didn't sleep, he didn't eat, he became very weak. He is a little better now, hopefully he will improve when he can get some air. |
