ContentBohuslav Martinů writes to Pierre Fournier asking for advice. He's bothering him again with the concert. [BM was at that time working on the third version of the concerto CONCERT FOR VIOLONCELLO AND ORCHESTRA No.1. The premiere of the third version of the concerto took place on 5.12.1955 in Lausanne, Switzerland and the soloist was Pierre Fournier] BM changed the second voice in the second movement, the long passage, which is now in the bassoon. Not sure if the original, "doubles in cello", was better? He's sure PF will play the first version! BM asks PF to decide and let Strecker [referring to Wilhelm Strecker of Schott Music GmbH & Co. publishers] know whether the solo part will be kept as it was in the new version and the bassoon removed from the score. It is a pity that BM and PF could not meet and discuss. BM will write to Strecker to get a description and give PF the corrected solo part before it goes to press.
