Content and physical description
ContentYesterday she started to chat with Rudolf Firkušný and Bohuslav Martinů. RF praised her April Preludes. They got a good review in Rhythm. Tomorrow they are to meet at a reception [at the Opočenský's]. But again they stirred up hostilities with Josef Páleníček, [Karel] Šebánek, [Jiří] Mucha and others when VK, BM and RF got up and left after their arrival in Dôm. She also got acquainted with [Jan] Zrzavy. Today VK goes to [Alphonse] Leduc and is curious about the fee she will receive for The Bells [Variations on the Bells of the Church of St-Etienne-du-Mont].
Yesterday he telephoned BM [Charles] Munch and excused her from teaching because she is to conduct his CONCERT [FOR CEMBALO AND SMALL ORCHESTRA] on 2 June. ChMunch congratulated BM on his choice of conductor and apologized that he could not come because he would be away. VK already knows the first movement a little, but the third is very difficult. BM will probably go to England with her. It is good that they [the Kaprals] have written to him. VK is wondering what [Alois] Hába will answer her [to pay for her travel to and from England]. She sends her regards to the young Trtilks [Renata and Josef Trtilk] whom she is seeing at lunch.
Their letter has just arrived. The Melantrich do not want to publish her score [of the Military Symphony for her concert in England], they say it is going to press. Her parents are to send her the old score at once.
VK wrote a letter to [Otakar] Šourka thanking him for his criticism of JULIETTA and for his open attitude to new things. He replied to her enthusiastically (VK's letter enclosed). She failed to settle the matter for [Gracian] Černušák, but she does not know why he did not contact the National Theatre directly, which certainly had the necessary information. She has not yet distributed copies of [April's] preludes.
