Content and physical description
ContentCharlotta Martinů probably received a letter from Prague from L[uďek] Löbl and J[aroslav] Marek - or she will. They sent a copy to Jaromír Špáček. The letter is written in Czech, so JŠ sends an extract from it.
Both are opera singers and students of the Prague Academy of Performing Arts. They want to form an ensemble performing chamber opera and start their activities with an evening performance of WHAT PEOPLE LIVE in the first half of the evening and another one-act opera in the second half. She asks Charlotte to agree to pay her a fee from the opening night in crowns.
The writer has asked K. S. [Karl Shebanek?] to look up information on this work. KS informed him that the rights are held by the London branch of Boosey & Hawkes. [LL and JM] enquired with Dilia and asked Charlotte to help them obtain material from B&H.
If they are successful in setting up the planned ensemble, they would like to name it after Bohuslav Martinů. According to JS, these are plans for the distant future and ChM has time to think about it.
This morning the writer received a phone call from [Czechoslovak] television saying that Václav Kašlík would like to perform A PLEA AGAINST THE UNKNOWN on television, starting with a fragment by BM and continuing with a drama by Georges Neveux. It's an interesting idea, but one must be careful that BM's work does not suffer. ChM will surely get a letter from [Czechoslovak] Television or from Václav Kašlík. They thought that JS was her representative and could make decisions for her.
"Nynka" [Anna Špačková?] sends her regards.
