She [AS] is not better, although she is going to the doctors. They are planning to go to the country next weekend - but only if the weather is nice, the cold would not do the writer's bronchial tubes any good.
They are glad for the relatively favourable news about Angèle Quennehen's health. However, the treatment will take some time.
JS reprimands Charlotte for her inattention in reading his letters: right at the beginning of the last one he thanks her for the shipment [of medicine] to Adelphane from Basel.
He wrote to Brno to thank and apologise to Charlotte. He telephones [Jiri] Mack to thank him. At the same time he will call Sasha [Vettomov] about the Sonata No. 1 [for cello and piano].
[Part of the letter written on 2 October] He writes only today, on Monday the workmen were still at their house and yesterday Maria's friend came to finish the work because Maria is still ill. Since yesterday afternoon they are finally living like civilized people.
JS looked for [Jiri] Mack in Aria, but [Ales Vladimir ?] Křička told him that JM was ill. Charlotte's thanks for JULIETTA's recordings were conveyed by JS to Mack through [Maria Křička ?]
JŠ finally saw Zdeněk Pechold. He tells Charlotte that the fees for the performance of JULIETTA in Vienna will be paid to her (as well as to Georges Neveux) in France. [Handwritten note by ChM: The same applies to THE PLAYS OF MARY in Germany.]
The news [of Miloš Šafránek as translator of JULIETTA?] was surprising to JŠ (though only in part: he had suspected it since MŠ came to the Dilie archives with GN), but ChM need not have worried. The [Czechoslovak] TV from Prague had a French translation of MS's libretto of JULIETTA made. JS spoke to the GN about it and quoted to him what ChM wrote [ChM's handwritten transcript: in last letter]. ZP promised to inform TV that ChM was unlikely to accept the translation from MS. JS encloses a letter to be signed by ChM and sent to Dilia in response to their letter officially informing her of the translation by MS if she agrees. He has been paid 5,000 Kshs for it. [Crossed out sentence corrected by ChM's changed hand: if Charlotte is not happy with the addendum, she should not send it to Pechold].
At ChM's request, the paragraph suggested by Dilia, according to which the television broadcast [of the film version of JULIETTA] in France is linked to the previous theatrical performance of the opera, will be omitted. JS sends back to Charlotte a letter from [Vaclav] Kašlík relating to this. ZP promised to notify the TV station.
As soon as they returned from the writer's brother-in-law, the writer handed [a Supraphon employee] the manuscript of My Life [with Bohuslav Martinů]. He asked him to let him know about it at the end of the month or so. He himself has not yet been able to reach SV; he will try.
Yesterday they went to the opening of the exhibition of Jan Zrzavý's works from 1901-1911. Even in the early days of his work he had a distinctive style.
Charlotte is to write Dilie's address on the envelope of her letter to ZP.
