Content and physical description
ContentMichael Henderson sends further questions about the creative thinking and opinions of Bohuslav Martinů, which he asks Jan Novák to answer. During his holiday in Italy, MH wanted to visit Jan Novák in Riva, but was unable to catch him. On 22 November [correctly 23 November] Charlotte Martinů died in a clinic near Paris. MH enquires about BM's views on other composers (Claude Debussy, Josef Suk, Vítězslav Novák,...). According to Rudolf Firkušný, BM was deeply affected by the attacks on his integrity printed in Czechoslovak newspapers. What position would BM have had in the Czechoslovakia if he had returned to his homeland after 1948? JULIETTA had a successful English premiere last year and now they hope to stage GREEK PASSIONS. Finally, MH enquires about the life and work of the Czech-born composer František Kramář [also Franz Krommer], whose works have intrigued him. He wishes all the best for 1979.
