Content and physical description
ContentEvaluation of the productions of the operas Dido and Aeneas (Henry Purcell) and TWELVE ALEXANDERS (Bohuslav Martinů), prepared by Václav Nosek. The first premiere took place on 15 December 1988, the second on 16 December 1988. The realization of the project is a new attempt to create an experimental workshop on the New Stage. The first attempt was supposed to be a performance of a triptych (Pergolesi: The Maid of the Lady, BM: The Tears of the Foot, Berg: Euphrides at the Gates of Tymen), but it was postponed due to inadequate acoustic conditions. A reconstruction is not yet planned, so a Baroque opera combined with a contemporary work was chosen. Both works are evaluated, in the case of TWELVE ALEXANDERS, the only criticism is the vulgarizing character in the mimic-dance actions and costumes. The performances of the individual performers are also evaluated. The soloists in the BM work gave much better performances than in the case of the HP opera. The financial cost and exhausted hourly capacity of the production are quantified. Press coverage is also included. Attached is the cast of the opera's soloists.
