Content and physical description
ContentIn the letter there is information that the National Theatre is preparing the premiere of a ballet evening, during which it will perform Bohuslav Martinů's work VZPOURA and Helmut Eder's Wandering Ulysses. VZPOURA is described as a lush, almost mischievous work and BM has worked out the libretto himself. As is typical of BM's stage work, the musical, literary, scenic, visual and movement components are in harmony here, resulting in a fully harmonious theatrical effect. Set and costumes were provided by Květoslav Bubeník, choreography and direction by Jiří Blažek. The ballet Odysseus' Wanderings is brought to the stage of the National Theatre by Jiří Němeček in a different artistic treatment. The ballet was originally conceived for the lake stage of the Bregenz Music Festival. JN choreographed and directed, Oldřich Šimáček designed the set and Jindřiška Hirschová provided the costumes. The premiere of the ballet evening will take place on 5 May 1969 under the direction of conductor Josef Kuchinka. In addition to the soloists and members of the National Theatre Ballet, the Smetana Theatre Orchestra will perform.
