Content and physical description
ContentDilia writes to the National Theatre that Universal Edition responded to the letter of 6 February 1961 [ND 1961-02-06] with a letter stating that Bohuslav Martinů had promised the first performance of GREEK PASSION to the State Theatre in Brno. Universal Edition communicated this to the National Theatre by letter of 12 July 1960. Because of the promise, Universal Edition cannot offer the first performance to the National Theatre. This would only be possible if the National Theatre in Brno agreed to do so. This must be resolved as soon as possible. As far as the financial terms of Universal Edition are concerned, the rental fee for the first season is $300, for the second season $250, and the royalties are 10%, of which 2% goes to the translator. The musical material could be delivered immediately. Also attached is information that the constant dollar rate is 7,20,-. If the National Theatre wants to stage the play first, they need to secure the approval of the State Theatre in Brno. If they get this approval, they need to attach a document with the approval to the order of musical material. Finally, they inform that they are sending the advance copy to the State Theatre in Brno at the same time.
A note in someone else's hand stating that they are to leave it with Brno, and then a note in another hand stating that the letter is to go to the Opera House administration for their attention and comment.
