Content and physical description
ContentThe Czechoslovak Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music informs Bohuslav Martinů that the Secretariat of the Czechoslovak Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music in Prague has received his letter of 30 July 1928 concerning the performance of the SMITH QUARTET No.2 at the Sixth Chamber Music Festival 1928 in Siena. The secretariat informed prof. Alois Hába, the executive director of the section, and Karel Boleslav Jirák, a member of the jury. The Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music accepts BM's opinion on the representation of his compositions. The original performance by the Novák-Frank Quartet was abandoned for financial reasons, as was the performance by the Zika Quartet. The secretariat of the Czechoslovak section therefore negotiated with the Kolisch Quartet from Vienna. On 12 July 1928, the secretary of the Czechoslovak Section received a crucial reply stating, "We are very happy and ready to play the BM String Quartet No. 2 in Siena, given that this piece is already part of our repertoire." The Czechoslovak Section explains to BM the circumstances of the late announcement of this fact and attaches the address of Prof. Edward Joseph Dent in London.
