Content and physical description
ContentNikos Kazantzakis understands well Bohuslav Martinů and his difficulties. He writes that the last act must be quick and in a rhythm that will gradually accelerate. He also agrees that he can distinguish the opera from the original novel in the plot. From a theatrical point of view, it is correct to have the character Manolios die at the moment BM suggested. NK understands the necessity of alterations for the good of the opera, so BM should proceed as he thinks best. They will decide when BM visits him with the manuscript. The day after tomorrow NK leaves for Germany where his work Sodom and Gomorrah will be performed. He will return around December 10.
