Content | Bohuslav Martinů is very glad to hear about the project regarding development and encouragement of American chamber music; he is aware of the high musical standard at the University of Michigan and is extremely pleased that they have selected him to participate in it. At this moment he does not have any chamber works which have not already been premiered, this year he had first performances of four chamber works in New York [STRING QUARTET NO. 7, H 314, QUARTET FOR OBOE, VIOLIN, VIOLONCELLO AND PIANO, H 315]. He is writing SINFONIA CONCERTANTE No. 2, H 322, for violin, oboe, bassoon and cello, with string orchestra and piano; there are two clarinets and two french horns which are not obligatory. He wonders if they would be interested in this combination as it does not fit their requirements. Although he already made many commitments and Gilbert Ross have given him very little time, he would be happy to write a new work for this occasion. His usual fee for a chamber work is $1,000. He asks GR to let him know their decision and what kind of work they would prefer. |
