Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů arranged Georges Neveux's Le Voyage de Thésée. He asks the GN for permission to use this text for his new opera [ARIADNA]. He is only working with acts 2 and 3 of this play, i.e. from the scene with the guard to Thésée's departure. It will be a one-act play of 30-40 minutes. BM had to shorten a lot, but he did it with respect to the text of the GN.
He would like to take part in an anonymous competition in Venice [Ricordi Prize?]. The first prize will probably go to the Italian, but La Scala might present other works and ARIADNA might be among them.
Hopefully the work is still available. [BM is enchanted by all of GN's work and is keen to set it to music.
He will have a sample of how he has edited the text sent to him. There are minimal changes.
He asks again for permission, the deadline for the competition is approaching and he has to finish the piece in a few weeks.
The situation regarding JULIETTA is promising now. A German translation is being prepared and several German theatres are interested in the opera. BM hopes to see it on stage again.
Both he and Charlotte Martin give their regards to GN and his wife.
