Content and physical description
ContentCharlotta Martinů replies to Zdeněk Pechold's letter of 29 September 1964. She has received good news from Rudolf Firkušný about the CLASSICAL CONCERT No. 3 [performed in San Francisco, see DLA 1964-09-12].
She asked Karel Šebánek to send her the score of JULIETTA by the end of July 1964. She only received a piano excerpt from him a few days ago. ChM promised the score to Edmond ["Lucien"] Carrière, conductor of the National Opera in Lyon, who now asks her to send it quickly. However, JULIETTA was performed on French Radio at the Salle Gaveau in November 1962, so it would be more appropriate to send Carrière the score from that performance, which contains the French text. Boosey & Hawkes in Paris did not know the whereabouts of the score. EC would be happy to perform one of BM's major operas in Vichy in the summer. He has already conducted GREATER ON THE BRIDGE and it was a success. JULIETTA is in a hurry, he would like to prepare it for next season. ChM asks Dilia to arrange sending the French score. It is not always possible to perform BM's opera in France, the opportunity should be taken.
Charlotte had a lovely holiday, and BM works have often been performed in France. ChM is glad that Mrs Bušková and her son enjoyed the summer.
