Content and physical description
ContentCharlotta Martinů was unable to attend the performance of Greek Passions by the Prague National Theatre ensemble in Athens, because she was in Basel at the time for a memorial service on the anniversary of Bohuslav Martinů's death. However, ChM relays news from Helen Kazantzakis, who attended both Athens performances: prominent figures from the USA, including Anne-Marie Grüner and the cellist Janos Starker, are interested in performing the opera in Bloomington. Indiana University there is rich and has a very famous opera company.
New York musical conductor Harold Prince, who was with H. Kazantzakis at the 8/28 performance, would like to obtain the score of GREEK PASSIONS and show it to the director of the New York City Opera [Metropolitan or New York City Opera?] The Prince's wife Judy was a pupil of Marguerite Long in France, has played works by Bohuslav Martinů and speaks glowingly of his music. Charlotte asks that the score be sent to both Starker and Prince.
Universal Edition is said to have the SMITH QUARTET No. 2, which is currently disassembled. Charlotte asks that the score be sent to her unless they are planning a reprint. There is a lot of interest in BM's works, and she does not currently own any of his compositions.
ChM wishes Schlee and his family good health. She herself does not travel much anymore due to her age and only leaves Vieux-Moulin once a year for Switzerland. Zdenka Podhajská is now in the USA.
