Content and physical description
ContentThe writer tells Charlotte Martinů that Zdenka Podhajská has given him her letter. At the same time he has piano extracts of EPOS ON GILGAMES and GREEK PASSIONS sent to Charlotte, each in triplicate. ChM is to inform him afterwards to whom she has forwarded the notes, so that the publishers do not send them to the same persons.
The writer confirms that there is no chance of the operas being performed in Paris, although Universal Edition staff have tried to negotiate them. Rather, performances could take place in Bordeaux. It would be good to offer the work in Marseille as well. The writer asks Charlotte to try to contact the director of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Gabriel Dussurget, to arouse his interest in one of the works mentioned. EPOS ON GILGAMES would be particularly suitable, but GREEK PASSIONS would also fit into the Festival's framework.
The writer is grateful for the interesting news from Czechoslovakia. He did not know that the planned Prague performance of GREEK PASSIONS would take place in February 1967.
For the New York area, Universal Edition is represented by Presser Publishing, based in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. There one can easily obtain material of all the works of Bohuslav Martinů that have been published by Universal Edition.
