Content and physical description
ContentMiloslav Bureš replies to Zdeněk Zouhar in points to apparently previously sent questions: 1. František Popelka did indeed invite Bureš to send Studanky to Bohuslav Martinů in the jubilee year. At the same time, Bureš once undertook to send verses from the Highlands to BM. 2. Bureš sends a text for reciters. Zouhar can keep the cover of the afterword [by Václav Černý to the book edition of Studánek, see ID 5133 and 5134]. 3. The original title was "Song of the Ruby Well"; Bureš subsequently adopted BM's proposal for Opening the Wells. 4. The original scope of the poem was different, BM got the second part of the cycle in a different wording. After a discussion with V. Černý, Bureš reworked the second part, but this did not affect the musical text. Also in the first part there are two changes for the literary edition, which do not change the musical text. 5. Bureš does not want to enter into negotiations with Polička [arranging the premiere of OPENING THE STUDIOS], although he agrees with the proposal of Zouhar and his choir for a date in early December. The publishers, too, will prepare the release of Studánek for the "world premiere day around 8 December".
Bures is very excited and hopes to get to Brno for the dress rehearsal. The opening lines: 'On summer evenings...' Zouhar is to insert right after the dedicatory text of BM, which is spoken by the reciter. There is to be a "little pause" between the two texts.
