Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher informs the addressee (UE) that at the same time as this letter he is sending back to the publisher the piano extract (three parts in total) of [EPOS ON GILGAMES] which he originally received from him. He would like to purchase the entire material for his own library, and therefore requests a corresponding commercial offer. He asks whether it would be possible to exchange the provisional material sent so far for printed copies, as has been done with the piano lift. He asks for six piano lifts to be sent, which he plans to give to the soloists, collect the original copies from them and send them back together to the publisher. Also, the choral scores supplied contain many errors that have been corrected in subsequent printings, so Sacher would like to replace these copies as well. He also asks why the score is printed in a relatively small format. He would like to receive one copy in a larger print. He is very keen that the author of the Eichmann translation should also receive the piano extract and the score for inspection, so that he can double-check his work. Would the publisher be so kind as to send him the material?

"[...] Gleichzeitig mit diesem Brief geht der erste mir zugestelte Klavierauszug (in drei Teilen) an Sie zurück.



Am liebsten würde ich das ganze Material für unsere Bibliothek käuflich erwerben und bitte Sie, mir eine entsprechende Offerte zu unterbreiten.



Wäre es Ihnen möglich, das bisher gelieferte provisorische Material umzutauschen gegen fertig ausgedruckte Exemplare, wie wir es mit dem einen Klavierauszug nun schon gemacht haben? Ich bitte Sie, uns sechs Klavierauszüge zu schicken; wir werden sie dann den Solisten zustellen, die alten einsammeln und, wenn sie vollständig beisammen sind, Ihnen schicken.



Aber auch die gelieferten provisorischen Chorpartituren enthalten zahlreiche, im endgültigen Druck verbesserte Fehler, sodass ich gerne auch die Chorpartituren austauschen möchte.



Warum ist eigentlich die Partitur in einem relativ so kleinen Format gedruckt? Könnte auch ein etwas vergrössertes Exemplar hergestellt werden?



Ich lege grosses Gewicht darauf, dass der Uebersetzer, Herr Eichmann, einen Klavierauszug und eine Partitur zur Durchsicht bekommt, damit er seine Arbeit noch einmal nachprüfen kann. Würden Sie so freundlich sein und das veranlassen? [...]"
