Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů thanks the President [T. G. Masaryk] for his support. He has rested for a few days and everything appears to him in better colours. But he could not continue like this for long. Also the plan to return to Prague is taking everything in a different direction. He sees other possibilities for work arising from direct contact with home and has already separated himself somewhat from Paris. According to reports from friends, he would be in favour with the professors of the Conservatoire (V. Talich, K. Hoffman, J. Kunc), but the professors J. Křička and R. Karel are serious competitors. He asks Josef Schieszl to use his influence in his favour when deciding on the position after Josef Suk. In the meantime, however, he himself will come to Prague for the premiere of HER O MARIA, hopefully in December. Unlike the post-Suka position, he has almost no qualifications for the post of head of the National Theatre Opera. He has neither conducting temperament nor theatrical experience. He is, however, grateful that JS has intervened on his behalf. He has heard quite a bit of news about the Festival, but festivals are no longer interesting because music publishers are interfering.
