Content and physical description
ContentIt was hot in Paris, and when Bohuslav Martinů finished Mariken [from THE GAMES OF MARIA], they decided to go to Honfleur near Deauville for 14 days. The date of their arrival in Prague depends on the premiere at the National Theatre in Prague [ŠPALÍČEK, H. 214 I]. If it were 15 September, they would arrive on 5 September, but the premiere will probably be later, so they will arrive around 15 September. The house will wait for the time being, there is time for that and he doesn't have the money and maybe something better will be found. Let JZ leave the legends [to HER ABOUT MARIA] for now, BM will still do "Virgins Wise and Foolish" - he still has enough to do for those few days in Paris and would possibly look for something himself so that JZ doesn't have to read it. Mariken is much altered because BM has turned to Henri Ghéon, who coincidentally has translated the text into French before and there are more scenes than BM knew - it will be nice on stage. They wrote from Polička that the weather was bad there. Hopefully the money will arrive for JZ before BM leaves so BM can arrange it.
