ContentMartinů did not confirm the receipt of the fee of US$75 he was to receive from Legacy in Santiago de Chile for the performance of the 2nd Symphony there (c.9.11.1945), Šimek therefore reviewed the matter. The payment was undertaken by Havlasa, the envoy at the time [cf. letter from Havlasa to an unnamed friend, 9.12.1959]. During Havlas's time in office, it is said that "there was a terrible mess and therefore it is not surprising if something was forgotten". With the new Dipl. Deputy Fr. Čejka, they discovered that there was no confirmation that the honorarium had actually been sent. Šimek further enquired at the Instituto de Extensión Musical in Santiago de Chile and learned that BM had not yet even requested payment of the royalties for the 2nd and 3rd performances of his Second Symphony (23 and 25 May 1947).
The next performance of the Second Symphony also seems to be still unpaid - the operational material was sent by Šimek soon afterwards to the conductor Buchwald in L[...?], who performed it twice with great success, but was worried about the payment of the fee.
Further: also performed 'Tre ricercari' in Santiago on 31.10.[1947], conducted by V. Terah(?), with "unexpected success". BM should therefore not fail to ask for a royalty for the performance of the 2nd Symphony and the "Tre ricercari" at the Instituto de Extensión Musical in Santiago de Chile, surely all will be paid. BM is to reply immediately whether he has not received the first fee (for the performance of the 2nd Symphony on 9 November 1945).
