Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav and Charlotta Martinů are back in Nice. BM thanks Paul [and Maje] Sacher for their hospitality. BM and ChM were pleased to meet them and the visit to Schönenberg rejuvenated them, even if it was only for one day.
BM forgot to give the Sachers his traveler's checks for the envelope MS gave him. He'd better thank them for that with some new work. He returns to the subject of Gilgamesh [EPOS OF GILGAMES], which has plagued him for many years. It would be a cantata. Only a string orchestra would not be enough for it; BM does not need a full orchestra, but at least some instruments that are more sonorous than strings. Would that be a complication? Probably would also need an organ, asking the addressee for comments.
What is the exact wording of the dedication CONCERTA DA CAMERA, written on the first page? The piece will be published by Universal Edition in Vienna and the lost title page needs to be completed. The work was perhaps written for the anniversary of the Basel [Chamber] Orchestra and was dedicated to the PS.
How is Arthur Honegger?
