ContentBohuslav Martinů thanks Paul Sacher for his letter.
BM probably misspoke about JULIETTA. He had not counted on performing the opera in Basel, he would have used it only as an excuse. Once the material was out of Prague, BM would have found it easier to persuade Karel Šebánek - the director of [Orbis], which published the piano excerpt of JULIETTA - to allow the material to be sent to the USA, leaving all the responsibility to BM. BM reiterates that they do not refuse to lend him the material in Prague, but they do not dare to send it directly to the USA. Orbis Publishing would be better off if the material was in Switzerland. BM, however, does not insist on PS.
BM could request the material through the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where they want to perform the opera in concert. However, Rafael Kubelík is working there and he does not have a good reputation in Prague now.
Will PS come to New York this year?
