Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher hopes that Bohuslav Martinů received a birthday telegram from him as well as a letter dated 7 December 1945.
The Paris concert of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, at which PS wanted to conduct the Double Concerto, had to be postponed a few weeks ago. The organisers are facing difficulties and cannot afford to invite foreign conductors; only repertoire for which no rehearsals are needed is now being played in Paris. Taxes must be so high that concerts are becoming increasingly rare.
PS adds information about a piece to be composed by BM for the [Basel Chamber Orchestra's] Jubilee Concert in January 1947 [TOCCATA E DUE CANZONI]. PS also has wind instruments at his disposal, so the piece need not be for string orchestra only. The BM is allowed a maximum of 10-12 woodwind and brass instruments. There will be 8-10 first violins, 8 second violins, 6 violas, 6 cellos and 2 double basses. PS hopes to have BM's piece ready by the summer.
PS and [Maja Sacher] are looking forward to seeing BM in Europe. They are also thinking about Charlotte Martinů.
