Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher thanks Bohuslav Martinů for his letter of 26 October. He was very pleased with the response to his violin concerto [CONCERTO DA CAMERA] in America. He himself has not yet had time to study the score properly; for weeks now he has been with a copyist who takes a long time to write out the parts. PS cannot find the place with the rhythm 1-6-5-6-5-7 that BM pointed out to him. He asks for the bar number.
In his letter of 31 October, PS asks the addressee for further information; he restates his questions for the sake of argument. [Quoted text of letter Sac 1941-10-31.]
PS sends a programme of his forthcoming concerts in Zurich. At one of them, a DOUBLE CONCERT will be performed under his baton.
He and Maja Sacher were visited by Monique Haas. The latter played a sonata by Marcel Mihalovici, composed on the occasion of the addressee's 50th birthday. The piece made a strong impression on PS. The programme of that concert also included two Czech dances [two movements from THREE CZECH DANCES?], five small pieces by Edward Stämpfli, a piano suite by Tibor Harsányi and three pieces for piano by Albert Roussel. MH played excellently. Sacher also reported on friends from Cannes. PS feels that MM should emigrate to America.
PS thanks for the offer to send things, but doesn't need anything at the moment. He and MS say hello to BM and Charlotte Martinu.
