ContentPaul Sacher acknowledges receipt of the letters from Bohuslav Martinů dated 23 June and 22 July. He received them during his holidays - 17 July and 9 August.
He is glad that BM had the peace of mind to write [CONCERTA DA CAMERA] in the country, which he had previously lacked in New York. PS hopes the piece is on its way to Europe. It is to be premiered in Basel on 23 Jan 1942, together with Arthur Honegger's symphony for string orchestra [Symphony No. 2].
PS spent several pleasant weeks in the mountains where he could work and rest in peace. Now, on his return to Basel, he is preparing a new season.
PS received a letter from Marie Martinu. He hopes that she and Karolina Martinů are still doing well. BM is not to be concerned that she has not heard from her mother-in-law Amicia Quennehen. The occupied zone is still closed. Has BM tried contacting the Red Cross?
PS is glad that BM got news from Nelly Louise and Jean Rudolph Frey in Chile. Both are happy and healthy, NLF has given birth to a daughter.
PS has with him the material for the CONCERT FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA [No. 2]. He will first discuss its performance with the radio, then send it to Ernest Ansermet.
