Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů informs Paul [and Maja] Sacher that he has already received all the letters and the telegram from the addressee and the messages from [Nelly Louis and Jean Rudolph] Frey.
He and Charlotte Martinů are very glad to get out of New York to the country, they needed a rest.
BM set to work on the violin concerto [CONCERTO DA CAMERA]. The 1st movement is finished and the 2nd movement almost so. In two weeks BM will finish the whole concerto and have it sent to Sacher according to his instructions, hopefully the shipment will not be delayed. BM will have a copy made [in America]. He hopes that PS will be satisfied with the piece. BM has already contacted the Swiss Consulate and believes that PS will receive the piece in time, i.e. around September.
BM has not had much news from Europe, only from Karolina Martinu. They have not heard from ChM's parents or friends.
BM is feeling calmer and has decided not to change his character in any way, even though it is not very American.
They have experienced many new things, met friends, but the implications of recent events are more profound than they could have imagined.
He's happy to have been able to work on [CONCERTA DA CAMERA]. During his first days in New York, he regretted not being able to devote himself to the piece.
Does PS have the CONCERTO FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA [No. 2] and its score with him? Perhaps the concerto could be performed in Geneva. He spoke to Jacqueline Blancard about the piece. Does PS know it?
BM and ChM will stay in the country until Sept 15, then probably return to New York. BM will write the Sachers some more from the country. She and ChM are doing a lot of English study.
