Content and physical description
ContentThe second date of the planned concert has been set for 17 April, Bohuslav Martinů is waiting for Paul Sacher's approval. BM writes to Sacher to tell him what was discussed at the [AMT] committee meeting, although PS apparently already has news from Marcel Mihalovici.
The radio [Radio Nationale de Rennes] has given them 50 minutes for the first part - so they suggest to Sacher a Pastorale by Jean Riviere, with pieces by Willy Burkhard and Igor Stravinsky, to fill the allotted time exactly. For the second movement they set aside 40 minutes and leave the choice to the PS - BM suggests [Concerto for Small Orchestra, Op. 34, see ID 2798] by Albert Roussel (this lasts 12 min, the Double Concerto 20 min). Jean Françaix's [Sérénade pour petit orchestre? see ID 920] did not arouse much enthusiasm at the meeting.
It is still possible that the date will be moved from the 17th to the 15th of April; good orchestral players play on the 17th at the Opera House. BM will still telegraph Sacher. He sends MM's contact.
PS is to let him know his decision on the date quickly, the programmes are arranged long in advance.
BM is unsure of the exact minuteage of the TWELVE-CONCERT, it is about 20 min; asks the addressee to measure it.
Did PS get a response from Universal Edition regarding CONCERTA GROSSA? Charles Munch wants to put it out in March. He also asks about the text of the cantata - Latin or other?
BM has received a letter from Morgan bank.
He also says hello to Maja Sacher. He asks the addressee to send the enclosed note to Prague for Melantrich Publishers.
The number in his address is 14.
