Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů apologises for the many letters he has written to Karel Šebánek recently, and also for having reproached him for some things and being nervous. BM knows that KS will do what he can for him. But BM always gets angry when everyone is willing to help him and nothing happens. BM explains that he can't dispose of his things when they are at Boosey & Hawkes. The company takes care of everything and pays him for those rights. B&H have now returned some of the chamber stuff to him because they only want to do large symphonic works and operas (they have the money to lend the material), so KS has to negotiate with them. BM can't send scores to Prague to make material and lend it there. He can express his wish and Ernst Roth will always accommodate him. So BM thought that if there was a contract between B&H and Prague, it wouldn't matter where he published things, because the works published in Prague would be in B&H's catalogue and stock. The only problem is sending royalties to BM, as he has learned from past experience. He thinks that one option would be for B&H to pay him directly for things released in Prague, the resulting sum would be offset by the delivery of the music. In that case he would have his works published in Prague. KS is to investigate the situation and describe it truthfully. He is to send him Janáček's Male Choirs and the Field Masses. BM figured it would be possible to perform the first act from THEATRE BEHIND THE GATE, it is only a ballet. KS is to write regarding the question of PLAYS ABOUT MARY. BM thinks KS has already learned of the death of his friend Tibor Harsányi. He gives his address, which KS is also to give to [SHV].
