Content and physical description
ContentThey like both autographs of the RHYTMIC ETUDES and the “Kleine Serenaden” (SERENADE NO. 1, 2, 3, 4) very much, especially in artistic terms. The Rhythmic Etudes have a good chance of being sold. The Little Serenades, on the other hand, although masterfully composed, are unpractical as an item for publishing. On the other hand, they are so nice that they would like to publish them, even though, given the costs, it would be a sacrifice. Consequently, they suggest that he accommodate to their conditions so that he has a share of the revenues and, in the case of success, makes a profit. They propose 1,200 francs for the two works, the same share as in the case of the previous works, and kindly ask him to understand the economic aspect of this proposal. The writer will be visiting Paris in person in May and hopes to see Bohuslav Martinů. By then, he should let him know whether he agrees to it and wants to publish the works in this manner. He has recently heard a nice performance of his CONCERTO FOR VLC AND ORCH. NO 1 in Prague and liked it very much.
