Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů writes to Charlotte Martinů about a rainy and sultry day in New York. He received a letter from ChM and several letters from Prague. He has seen a doctor who has confirmed his wonderful progress, but still recommends against travel, recommending instead rest outside the city. BM plans to rest in the mountains with [Frank] Rybka and mentions that his return to Europe for the winter might be risky due to the bad news there.
He suggests staying in the US for a few months until the situation in Europe calms down. Work is going well, he has almost finished the second part of the Quartet [SMITH QUARTET No. 7 (CONCERTO DA CAMERA)]. The reviews of SYMPHONY [No. 5] have been favourable. He has not yet had news from Karel [Novak], apparently he must regain his strength after all. Rudolf [Firkušný] is away in South America and Jana has remained in New York. He has not seen [Antonín] Svoboda again, apparently he has gone somewhere in the Midwest. He hopes that ChM is not worried about the suitcases, it is quite possible that Uncle Gogo [Louis Vautier] had no money. With the weddings ChM is going to, it's a real "epidemic", BM wonders how quickly Ginette [Fievet] could have forgotten her sweetheart.
