Content and physical description
ContentWilli Strecker writes that Samuel Dushkin's proofs have already arrived and a series of transcriptions should be coming out soon. The only missing pieces are the Martinů pieces, two or three of which they want to publish separately with piano so that they don't have to wait for Martinů's reworking for the orchestral edition. The next series of editions should appear during November. Then the new promotion can begin, marking perhaps the beginning of a new concert season for SD.

He didn't go to Venice to see The Rake's Progress. He will hear the work in Stuttgart, where he will probably enjoy "Master Igor" even more than in Venice. Although the work had the "usual premiere effect", it was not as well received by the critics as he would have expected. His fears about the length of the work seem justified. He had heard the radio broadcast, but hearing Igor himself at the piano with the opportunity to follow the score would have been a far more immersive experience. It is undoubtedly a masterpiece that passes all the great stages. Whether it will be truly popular and find its audience remains to be seen.

Unfortunately, the contract with Igor [Stravinsky] could not be realised in the end, although it was agreed with the composer. The situation was complicated by the negotiations with AMP [Associated Music Publishers] and [Merritt] Tompkins, which caused many legal difficulties and then the whole plan fell through due to lack of time.
