BM si jistě vzpomene, že během týdne, kdy zkoušeli na premiéru SYMFONIE Č. 2, ztratili značné množství času korekturami provozovacího materiálu a museli členům orchestru zaplatit hodinový přesčas $246. CV si proto myslí, že by jim měl BM poplatky za oba premiérové koncerty (28. a 30. října) a za dva chystané koncerty (7. prosince v Oberlinu a 10. prosince v Columbusu) odpustit. Nepočítá do toho další práci nutnou pro zanesení dalších škrtů a oprav, které BM poslal v dopisu Erichu Leinsdorfovi po premiérových provedeních. Poplatky za rozhlasové provedení, plánované nyní na 19. prosince, řeší Mutual Broadcasting System. CV proto doporučuje BM, aby v této věci napsal přímo panu C. M. Hunterovi do stanice WHK. Cleveland Orchestra souhlasí s poplatkem $60 za každé následné provedení. Čas a peníze, které vynaložili na opravu partů, budou ku prospěchu BM, Newyorské filharmonie i dalších organizací, které skladbu uvedou v budoucnu. |

Dear Mr. Martinu:
I have your letter of December 1st regarding royalty payments to you for our use of the material for your “Second Symhony”.
You will recall that during the week that this work was in rehearsal for the premiere performance that a great amount of orchestra time was wasted in correcting the orchestra parts. Not only were bars missing, but in many cases whole lines of the music were missing. This slowed up the orchestra rehearsals to the extent that we were compelled to put in one hour overtime, for which we had to pay the orchestra members $246.00.
With the premiere perfomances October 28 and 30, and two scheduled performances next week, Tuesday, December 7th in Oberlin, Ohio, and Friday, December 10th in Columbus, Ohio, we will have done a total of four performances. At the rate you suggest of $60.00 per performance, I feel that since we spent $246.00 to correct the parts that these four performances should be given to us without payment. This does not include, of course, the additional work which was necessary to include the cuts and additions you sent to Mr. Leinsdorf in a letter following the premiere performances.
As to the broadcast of this work, scheduled now for Sunday, December 19th, all royalty fees are paid by the Mutual Broadcasting System, so I suggest that you write immediately to Mr. C. M. Hunter, c/o Station WHK, Terminal Tower, Cleveland, Ohio, stating that the royalty fee for the performance of this composition, Sunday evening, December 19th, will be $60.00. For any subsequent performances, we will agree to pay you the fee of $60.00 per performance.
You will realize, I am sure, that the time and money we expended will be to your benefit and the benefit of the New York Philharmonic and other organizations who perform your work later on.
